The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has condemned the arrest of Salihu Tanko Yakasai on Saturday by the Department of State Services .
The DSS has earlier arrested the social media aide to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State, Salihu Tanko Yakasai, for criticising President Muhammadu Buhari over the abduction of Zamfara School Girls.
Yakasai was also sacked on Saturday by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State.
SERAP expressed the displeasure via its official Twitter page on; “We condemn the unlawful arrest of journalist Salihu Tanko Yakasai simply for peacefully exercising his right to freedom of expression.
“Nigerian authorities should stop shutting up critics. Authorities must immediately and unconditionally release Mr Yakasai,”
Yakasai, who is the son of elder statesman, Tanko Yakasai, was whisked away on Friday in Kano hours after he tweeted that the Buhari-regime should secure Nigerians or resign.
However, Nigerians on Twitter have been calling for his release with the hash tag, #FreeDawisu, trending online.
