Pastor Tunde Bakare, Serving Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church (CGCC), has issued a stern warning to President Bola Tinubu, cautioning him against “playing God” and asserting that the current administration is veering the country off course.

Delivering a state of the nation address on Sunday, April 20, at the church’s auditorium in Ikeja, Lagos, Bakare called for a more humble and reflective approach to governance.

In his address, Bakare urged the President to reassess his leadership style and take responsibility for the growing discontent in the nation.

“Stop playing God,” he said pointedly, adding that while he disagrees with Tinubu’s methods, he harbours no desire for his failure. “The current administration is steering the polity adrift,” he added, calling on the government to “embrace humility.”

Clarifying the intent behind his remarks, Bakare stated that his message was not a condemnation but a call to action meant to redirect leadership toward a more constructive path.

He expressed concern over what he described as the weakening of democratic institutions, particularly the legislature, under Tinubu’s leadership.

Bakare also criticized the recent suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from the National Assembly, suggesting it was a punitive measure in response to her calls for transparency and accountability.

He challenged Senate President Godswill Akpabio to provide a clear explanation for the move and reaffirm the chamber’s commitment to democratic principles.
