The police in Ogun state have arrested a 29-year-old suspected kidnapper, rapist and serial killer identified as Ogunnaike Phillips.
The suspect who is said to be a member of the Aye confraternity, was arrested in connection to the death of 17-year-old Habeebah Akinsanya who was raped and macheted to death at her father’s farm around Mile 6, a community that is a few metres away from Ogun State Television, Abeokutain September this year.
Confirming his arrest to newsmen, the State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu said that Philips, a native of Ayepe Ijebu who resides in Abeokuta, confessed to killing in the same pattern three other underage girls and buried their remains in the bush.
The suspect on Friday led the commissioner and his team to Asero estate in Abeokuta, Itori in Ewekoro and Mile 6, along Ajebo road in Obafemi Owode local government, where he buried his victims.
He said the other victims are Abigail Dina aged 22 and Mary Ogunyemi, aged 23.
According to the commissioner, the suspect and his accomplice, Danjuma who is currently at large, were in the habit of luring victims to isolated bushes, collecting their phones, demand for ransom from families and eventually killing them.
Speaking to newsmen, the suspect demanded for the death penalty, adding his accomplice enlisted him into the crime.
“I don’t want the government to do anything for me, me and Danjuma and those cultist members, once they catch us, if they want to give us judgment, they should just kill us. Because they are the ones who led me to these stupid things” he said.
Alamutu, however, expressed dissatisfaction at the increasing number of missing persons and crime among youths and assured that an investigation was underway to identify and apprehend the other gang members.
He pledged to bring the suspect before the court to face the repercussions of his horrific deed, as families of the victims demanded justice for the untimely death of their loved ones
