President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday signed the National Anthem Bill 2024 returning Nigeria to the old National Anthem into law.
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio announced this on Wednesday during a joint session of the National Assembly.
He also announced that the president will not address the House but only flag off the new anthem.
Speaker Tajudeen Abbas said the president cancelled the address because June 12 is the official Democracy Day.
Both the Senate and the House of Representatives had passed the bill within a week.
“Nigeria, We Hail Thee” is the old national anthem used from independence in 1960 until 1978 before the present “Arise, O Compatriots,” was adopted in 1978.
