Troops of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, OPWS, have neutralised a suspected bandit in Taraba State.

The operation, according to a statement made available to journalists on Sunday in Jalingo by the acting spokesperson of the Brigade, Captain Oni Olubodunde, occurred during a precision strike conducted on 3rd May 2025.

The operation took place near Gafar Village in Ussa Local Government Council of the state, a location identified as a key transit route for criminal elements involved in attacks and thefts in the region.

“Acting on credible intelligence, the troops engaged the suspects in a fierce firefight, killing one bandit. An AK-47 rifle and a motorcycle, reportedly stolen from a civilian, were recovered at the scene,” Olubodunde said.

He also announced a significant breakthrough in a separate mission carried out in Bali.

“Troops acted swiftly on intelligence reports about the movement of suspected bandits from Tongo and Garin Alkali in Adamawa State toward the Shana community in Bali Local Government Area.

“Soldiers pursued the suspects into Yunkunssu Forest, where they were engaged in a heavy exchange of gunfire, forcing the criminals to flee. A locally fabricated revolver, an AK-47 magazine, and three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition were recovered following the encounter.

“These successful operations underscore the commitment of the 6 Brigade and Sector 3 OPWS to ensuring the safety and security of law-abiding citizens in Taraba State,” said Olubodunde.

He urged residents to support ongoing military efforts by providing timely and credible information to help eliminate criminal threats in their communities.
