At least two people have been feared dead as a petrol-laden tanker exploded on Owerri-Onitsha Road, Imo State on Friday.
According to eye witness account, the incident happened at about 10.45am when the driver was trying to make u-turn after discharging the liquidified natural gas at the Forte Oil company along Owerri -Onitsha Express road.
While making a U-turn, another vehicle carrying full load of pineapples from the Onitsha to Owerri, rammed into it and it exploded.
The explosion according to report burnt a woman beyond recognition while three others sustained severe injuries.
The incident was confirmed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Orlando Ikeokwu.

Also confirming the incident, the Director of Fire Service in Imo state, Japhate Okereafor, said: “We are there and we can confirm that one person has died and three persons injured. It was a tanker explosion which caught fire. The tanker was on motion when it exploded.
“At this point, we have effectively battle the incident and controlled it. My men are ground and we are doing our best to restore calmness in the area.”
