The aide-de-camp of Enugu State Deputy Governor, Mrs Cecilia Ezeilo, has been killed by unknown gunmen.
The ADC, a police sergeant identified as Helen Sunday, was gunned down around 10:00 pm on Tuesday night.
The incident occurred in the Abakpa-Nike area of Enugu.
Our correspondent learnt the ADC was on her way home from work when she was attacked by the hoodlums.
It was gathered that the hoodlums attacked the policewoman when she dropped from a tricycle, popularly known as ‘Keke NAPEP’.
The motive for the attack was not clear at the time of filing this report.
While some residents of Abakpa-Nike, where the incident occurred, attributed the killing to armed robbery when our correspondent visited the area on Wednesday, others suggested the ADC may have been assassinated.
It was also learnt that the hoodlums escaped after killing the police sergeant.
The Spokesman, Enugu State Police Command, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, told our correspondent that the police has launched a manhunt for the hoodlums.
Amaraizu also admitted that the motive behind the killing was still unknown.
But, although sources in the Enugu State government house said the murdered police officer was the Deputy Governor’s ADC, Amaraizu said the victim was an ‘orderly’.
“It was not her ADC but an orderly to the Deputy Governor.
“She was allegedly attacked and killed by yet to be identified person/persons over a yet to be established reason, reasons and motives.
“It is a very unfortunate development.
“We have commenced investigations, and launched a manhunt for those responsible for the crime,” Amaraizu said.
The Enugu State Government has yet to comment on the development.
But a source in the government house said the incident is being investigated.
