The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has expressed readiness to meet the waste management needs of residents, during and after the Easter festivities.

According to it, this is part of the strategy to consolidate its vision of establishing a cleaner and healthier state.

The Managing Director/CEO, Mr Ibrahim Odumboni, said this in a statement on Friday in Lagos by the Director Public Affairs, LAWMA, Mrs Folasade Kadiri.

Odumboni noted that LAWMA would leave no stone unturned, toward ensuring that the season was celebrated in a clean environment, due to the expected 100 per cent increase in waste output during the period.

He said that the agency had intensified its advocacy campaigns to sensitise residents on the importance of ensuring environmental sustainability around their neighbourhoods.

According to him, Private Sector Participants, (PSP) operators have been mandated to work optimally in their assigned areas, with LAWMA providing backup operations to cover service gaps.

Odumboni said: “All district heads across the state have been mandated to double their efforts and support the PSP operation to ensure no gap is felt.

“We have also taken definite steps to facilitate increased turnaround time by waste evacuation trucks, making sure there are no delays at landfills”, he said.

The LAWMA boss implored residents to desist from all acts capable of degrading the environment.

He also appealed to motorists to drive with caution in order to safeguard the lives of street sweepers, and other service providers discharging their duties during the period.

He urged the populace to bag their waste, patronise assigned PSP operators, and pay their waste management bills promptly.

Odumboni gave the assurance that the Authority had put in place adequate measures to ensure the celebration was observed in an environment-friendly atmosphere.

“While wishing all Lagosians a dirt-free Easter celebration, residents can call LAWMA’s toll-free numbers 07080601020 and 617, for inquiries on waste management issues in their areas, during and after the festive season,” he said.
