Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, said his administration committed substantial resources, as counterpart funding to the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), in order to address the apparent deficiency of school infrastructure, instructional materials and dilapidation of some public school structures.

Governor Sule stated this at the twin inauguration of the reappointed chairman and three new members of the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB), as well the chairman of the state Muslim Pilgrims’ Welfare Board, in Lafia, on Thursday.

According to him, the counterpart fund will facilitate the provision of additional school infrastructure, instructional materials, necessary for the creation of desired conducive environment for effective teaching and learning in schools across the state.

The Governor noted that through such massive investment in the education sector, the state will produce the manpower and expertise needed for dynamic and proactive public and private education.

Governor Sule said the inauguration of the members of the NSUBEB, will further strengthen the state’s basic education component, with a view to sustaining the administration’s modest effort towards repositioning primary and junior secondary schools, for enhanced quality delivery service.

“This administration has remain resolute in the provision of quality education to our children, especially at the elementary level, in order to provide strong foundation for nurturing them into becoming future leaders of tomorrow,” he stated.

The Governor added that the payment of the counterpart funding, has enabled the NSUBEB to access necessary funding from UBEC, giving rise to the massive construction and renovation of primary and secondary schools across the state.

“This singular effort, I believe, will address the apparent deficiency of school infrastructure, instructional materials and dilapidation of some of our schools,” Engineer Sule said.

The Governor inaugurated Muhammad Musa Da’azumi as NSUBEB Chairman for a second term.

Inaugurating Colonel Jibrin Bala Yakubu (rtd) as the Chairman of the Nasarawa State Muslim Pilgrims’ Welfare Board, the Governor said, this will strengthen the board for effective performance.

Engineer Sule said the appointees were carefully selected based on their record of experience, hard work, dedication, patriotism and pedigree, charging them to live above board and justify the confidence government repose in you.

He tasked them on carrying out their assignments diligently, devoid of any sentiment or favouritism.

The Governor used the opportunity of the event to appreciate the speaker and members of the state House of assembly for the speedy consideration of the nominees and for showing exemplary leadership and collective resolve to continue to work together in harmony to deliver service to the good people of the state.

Engineer Sule equally appreciated some development partners for supporting his administration, especially Keystone Bank, Guarantee Trust Bank (GTB) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Keystone Bank upgraded science schools across the three senatorial zones in the state, GTB has commenced the upgrading of most schools in the Southern senatorial zone, while the CBN governor and other officials of the apex bank, have decided to take over the renovation of most of the structures in Government College Keffi.

The Governor also, called on the people of the state to maintain all protocols put in place to curtail the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
