Rivers State Governor ,Nyesom Wike has ordered the demolition of the multi-million naira air conditioned pedestrian bridge built by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in from of its headquarters in Port Harcourt.
Bulldozers of construction giant, Julius Berger, were seen on site on Wednesday demolishing the multi-million naira project.

Mixed reactions have continued to trail the demolition with many seeing it as a having a political undertone since Rivers is a PDP controlled state and NDDC is controlled by the APC.
The overhead bridge, considered to be a white elephant project, is believed to be the first air-conditioned pedestrian bridge in the South-South region if not in the entire country.

Police officers are usually stationed inside the enclosed bridge located right opposite NDDC to stop hoodlums from attacking pedestrians.
It was constructed by NDDC for easy movement of their visitors and clients to their office from the opposite side of the road. It’s fully air conditioned and secured.
