The first batch of Nigerians in South Africa have departed the country for safety of their lives.
Nigerians among other African immigrants in South Africa have been the major targets of xenophobic attack in the last few weeks.
The incident which has continued to generate public outcry across the Africa continent appeared to have forced governments of affected countries to move for immediate evacuation of their citizens.
President Muhammadu Buhari had on Monday toed a similar lane by issuing an order for voluntary evacuation of all Nigerians who intend to return home.
Confirming the decision, the special assistant to the President on Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa noted that 640 Nigerians have signed up to take the free flights from South Africa to Nigeria after the attacks.
320 Nigerians who make up the first batch are expected to arrive the country later in the day after boarding the flight to Lagos.
The second batch is scheduled to depart on Thursday.
