The Yobe Government has tightened security acrosss the state and relaxed the midnight curfew to enable Muslim residents to observe the Holy fasting month of Ramadan peacefully

The Security Adviser to Gov. Mai Mala Buni, Retired Brig.-Gen. Dahiru Abdussalam, disclosed this after the monthly security meeting on Wednesday in Damaturu.

Abdussalam said the State Security Council reviewed the security situation in the state and resolved to reinforce preventive measures throughout the fasting period.

He said the council assessed emerging threats and adopted strategies to forestall criminal activities, especially during late-night prayers.

According to him, security agencies have intensified patrols, surveillance and intelligence gathering across major towns and identified flashpoints.

He added that personnel had been deployed to strategic locations to prevent burglary and other crimes when families leave their homes for congregational prayers.

The adviser said “the security architecture has been strengthened to ensure that no untoward incident occurs during the Ramadan period.

“Clerics and Islamic scholars have been sensitised to guide worshippers on peaceful conduct and community vigilance.

“The midnight curfew is being relaxed to allow residents to attend Tafsir and other late-night religious activities until the early hours.”

He, however, urged residents to cooperate with security agencies and comply with temporary movement restrictions in some areas.

Responding to concerns over restricted access around Family Support Roundabout to Ali Marami Housing Estate in Damaturu, he appealed for patience.

He said the restriction was based on security considerations and would be reviewed as the situation improves.

Abdussalam assured residents that government remained committed to sustaining peace and ensuring a hitch-free Ramadan celebration across the state
